Our Team
Dr Josephine Muir
Josephine provides high-level strategy and leadership for the growing business.
Josephine has held senior executive roles in the not-for-profit sector including The Marshall Centre, Donor Mate and The Lions Eye Institute.
Josephine completed a PhD at the University of Melbourne and a Research Fellowship at Princeton University. She has completed fodmap training by Monash University.
Most importantly, Josephine has lived with IBS for 30 years.

Dr Mary Webberley
Mary leads the scientific elements of product development. She is responsible for the systematic literature reviews that drive ingredient choices and underpin the health claims for Superflora products.
Mary has two biology degrees from the University of Cambridge.
She has experience in running clinical trials including research into the diagnosis of IBS and other gut conditions.
She was the winner of the 2018 CSIRO Breakout Female Scientist Award.

Prof Barry Marshall
Barry with Prof Robin Warren showed that Helicobacter pylori is the main cause of stomach and duodenal ulcers. Their discovery was recognised by the Nobel Prize for Medicine or Physiology. It led to more effective ulcer treatments and to uncovering the link between H. pylori and stomach cancer.
Barry’s strong industry connections have facilitated research translation. He invented and commercialised two gold standard diagnostic tests for H. pylori.
Barry has been a supporter of Noisy Guts since it originated as a research project at UWA. He is a keen proponent of evidence-based management of gut conditions.

Ingredients
PHGG
Research has demonstrated that PHGG helps people with a wide range of gut conditions, from babies with diarrhoea through to the elderly with constipation. There's also good evidence that it helps with IBS.
PHGG is a prebiotic fibre and promotes digestive balance. It helps food move through the gut at just the right pace
PHGG prebiotic fibre promotes regularity without causing bloating
It is fermented further along the digestive tract than other fibre
It also increases levels of good bacteria like Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli.
PHGG fermentation by the microbiome results in short chain fatty acids such as butyrate, which provide energy for the digestive tract.
All our products contain at least 5g of PHGG per serve. Our PHGG is supplied by Sunfiber®️ (Taiyo International) for consistent high quality.
Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856
We've included the clinically validated probiotic, LactoSpore® Bacillus coagulans, MTCC 5856.
It is proven to improve symptoms of IBS (bloating, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and stool frequency).
This probiotic is a spore-forming bacterium, which makes it heat stable and helps it to survive the stomach and reach the colon in a potent form.
The name comes from the fact that it makes lactic acid. This helps create an acidic environment in the gut and contributes to anti-microbial activity towards pathogens and promotion of beneficial bacteria.
We source it from Sabinsa to ensure it is not contaminated with harmful bacteria, endotoxins or antibiotics. Sabinsa also test to ensure that it hasn’t changed either genetically or phenotypically.
We use 1 billion CFUs per serve.

The Boosts are flavoured with real 100% fruit and greens powders.
Raspberry, strawberry, acai berry and kiwi fruit in the Berries+.
Mango, passionfruit, papaya, pineapple, blood orange and carrot juice powders in the Tropical+.
Lemon, desert lime, kiwi, spinach, chlorella and spirulina in the Greens+.
The Hot Chocolates contain high quality, rich cocoa powder, plus Belgian chocolate callets or real raspberry powder.
The Five-Spice Aromatic Chai contains organic tea extract, plus a fragrant blend of cinnamon, cardamon, ginger, cloves & nutmeg.
We’ve also added premium hydrolysed bovine collagen to the hot drinks for skin and joint benefits.
And for a sweetness we’ve added a little Australian raw cane sugar.

We’ve then added delicious ingredients, like real fruit powders, high quality cocoa and Belgian chocolate, so that patients are happy to enjoy Superflora every day and reap the gut health benefits.

Simply stir 10g of Daily Gut Health Boost powder into 125 ml (1/2 a cup) of chilled water.
10g is 2 dessert spoons, but spoons differ in size, so weigh if you can.
It’s ok to leave it for a couple of hours in the fridge if you wish, but re-stir before drinking.
Follow with a large glass of water. Increase your fibre intake gradually and up your water intake along with your fibre, especially if you struggle with constipation.

Simply add 1 and ½ desert spoons (16g) to a mug. Add hot water and stir then top up with lactose-free or your preferred milk.
The probiotic LactoSpore is heat stable.
The Raspberry Hot Chocolate can also be whisked in cold milk to make a delicious milk shake.

Yes, the whole range have been tested and certified low FODMAP by Monash University.
That means that one serve of each product is low in FODMAPs and can assist with following the Monash University Low FODMAP Diet. A strict low FODMAP diet should only be commenced under the supervision of a healthcare professional. Monash University has assessed the product as being low in FODMAPs only.
All have the little blue Monash logo on the front of the pack. This is easily recognized and trusted by people with IBS.

Yes, all our products have been tested by a WA-based NATA accredited lab so you can be confident that they have no detectable gluten.

Yes, all are suitable for children.
PHGG is suitable for children. There is a clinical trial demonstrating is effectiveness in improving chronic constipation in children.
The probiotic Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856 promotes a healthy microbiome, but does not colonise the gut itself. This makes it a very safe option for children, or those with compromised immune systems.

We don’t use any artificial sweeteners in our products instead we sweeten our drinks with a little Australian raw cane sugar.
Artificial sweeteners can trigger gut symptoms such as diarrhoea in people with IBS and sensitive tummies.
There is also growing evidence that artificial sweeteners may disrupt the microbiome and have negative metabolic effects.
We also prefer the flavour of real sugar. It doesn’t have an unpleasant after taste like stevia or artificial sweeteners.

Daily. We recommend a daily ritual of Superflora Gut Health Boost before breakfast or a hot chocolate after dinner.
Consistency pays off. While we’d love to spruik instant impact, studies have shown that it can take a few weeks for the full benefits of PHGG and Bacillius coagulans MTCC 5856 to kick in for the gut your microbiome.
Patients unused to fibre may wish to start with a half serve for the first week and then increase to the full 10g.
It’s also a good idea to increase water intake, especially if prone to constipation.

The Daily Gut Health Boosts are all suitable for vegans.
The probiotic Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856. The commercial name LactoSpore is derived from the fact that it is a lactose acid producing bacterium.
The hot drinks contain hydrolysed bovine collagen. They are not suitable for vegans or vegetarians.
However, they are all dairy-free. The real chocolate callets in the Dark Hot Chocolate are dark not milk chocolate.
